Natural Farming: Farmers get less profit and more expenses from chemical farming. Farmer Sukhjinder Singh of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh has given up on chemical farming. Now he is doing natural farming (Prakritik Kheti). By adopting this farming method, the cost of their cultivation has come down drastically and the profits have increased to a great extent. He says that the success that comes by overcoming failures is permanent. Today this farmer has emerged as a source of inspiration for the farmers of his district.

6 days training

Sukhjinder Singh told that he took natural farming training in Palampur along with his father Pritam Singh. Padmashree Subhash Palekar's 6-day training camp changed his attitude towards farming. Returning home, the father-son duo adopted natural farming on 1 bigha of land. He suffered losses in the first two years, but he was so impressed by Palekar ji's camp that he continued to do natural farming.

In this area famous for vegetable cultivation, people take more linseed crops like Ghee, Pumpkin, Cucumber. Sukhjinder told that along with all types of vegetables, he got very good results in mustard, garlic, wheat and maize also with this method as compared to other farmers. This father-son duo is now turning other farmers also towards this method. For this, apart from guiding the farmers, he is also preparing paneer made of vegetables.

Sukhjinder's father Pritam Singh says that for the first time at the age of 72, he has seen such a farming method, which is really farmer friendly. Every farmer-gardener should adopt this method. According to the Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Department, earlier Sukhjinder used to sell vegetables by putting up a roadside canopy, but customers used to come less. Since the Department of Agriculture provided them with canopy, the number of customers has increased by 50 percent.

Giving information about natural farming to other farmers

Sukhjinder is teaching natural farming to other farmers. Apart from the father-son duo, Sukhjinder's wife is also playing an important role in the spread of Prakriti Kheti. She is associated with the Saraswati Women's Group and is giving information about natural farming to the members of this group. Some women of the group have started adopting this method in their respective fields and beds.
