The government is working on bringing a National Retail Trade Policy and E-Commerce Policy for growth in the country's retail sector. Sanjeev Singh, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), said, this will also help in providing better infrastructure facilities and easy access to credit for small street traders.


Work is also going on on e-commerce policy

He said that through this effort, a policy is being brought to prepare a strategy to provide a competitive and sustainable environment at the global level for the development of retail business. He said that the department is also working on bringing an E-Commerce Policy for online retailers.


Singh said at a conference on e-commerce and everyday use goods (FMCG), we want the coordination between e-commerce and retail traders to be better.


Insurance Scheme for Retail Traders

Apart from this, the department is also in the process of making an 'Insurance Scheme' for all retail traders. He said that the Accident Insurance Scheme will especially help the small traders of the country.



The Joint Secretary asked the industry to focus on the production of high quality products. At the same time, the pace of Indian retail market is growing fastest in the world. It is estimated to touch the figure of $ 2,000 billion by 2032.
