Unbridled refined palm oil imports bring down prices
SEA executive director BV Mehta said further fall in prices cannot be ruled out. He also said that unbridled import of refined palm oil has led to a fall in domestic edible oil prices, which is affecting the sale of mustard seeds during the peak harvesting season and putting farmers in distress. He said, we feel that the heavy import of refined palmolein is neither helping our mustard farmer nor the Indian refining industry.
These suggestions were given to stop the fall in prices
In order to prevent further fall in prices, SEA has suggested that the government may reduce this fall by keeping the import of refined palm oil in a restricted category or by increasing the import duty difference between crude palm oil (CPO) and palmolein to at least 20%. stop the Apart from this, the government can start procurement of mustard on MSP through agencies like Nafed.
