Delhi GRAP: The Delhi government will decide today whether BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers should be banned in Delhi.
Delhi Pollution Level: The Delhi government will decide on Saturday, December 31, whether BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers should be banned in the national capital or not. A senior official of the Transport Department gave this information on Friday. The statement came soon after the sub-committee on 'Graded Response Action Plan' (GRAP) directed authorities in the Delhi-National Capital Region to implement restrictions under phase three of the anti-pollution plan with immediate effect.
Decision can be taken considering AQI
The sub-committee said in a review meeting that the air quality index (AQI) is likely to move to the 'severe' category due to calm winds and stable atmospheric conditions. The 24-hour average AQI in Delhi was 399 on Friday. At the same time, on Saturday, the air quality in Delhi was recorded in very poor category. On Saturday morning, there was fog in the surrounding areas including Delhi. Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in Very Poor category. It was recorded at 369, while Noida's AQI was 391. An AQI between 201 and 300 is considered 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor' and 401 and 500 'severe'.
"We will review whether there is a need to ban BS-III petrol and BA-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi on Saturday," said a transport department official. GRAP is a system of anti-air pollution measures in the capital and its surrounding areas according to the severity of the situation.

BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles were banned till 9th December in the third phase of GRAP after the fall in air quality. Violators of this ban were directly ordered to be fined above 20,000.
